The Peak District offers a wonderful landscape of hills and valleys for the photographer to explore. This image is taken up in the hills near Dovedale. I have always loved compositions where a small object is placed close up and dominant in the foreground of an image, as the thistle is here. It is an approach that I first saw way back in the 1960’s in the popular television series ‘The Avengers’  with Patrick McNee and Dianna Rigg. Woody Allen used it to comic effect is his films like ‘Sleeper’ – where unimportant trivial events were taking place in the foreground whilst some chaotic event was taking place way back in the background.
